Night of Wonder

Saturday, December 2, 2023, 8pm
Welcome to Voices' 28th season. Our annual Christmas concert will feature Healey Willan’s The Great “O” Antiphons of Advent and other seasonal music. Come and join the choir in celebrating in one of the most magical times of the year.

Sacred Tradition

Saturday, March 23, 2024, 8pm
During this time of reflection, the choir will perform two of the most stunning works of music ever written for the Lenten season: Miserere by Gregorio Allegri and Stabat Mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. The Stabat Mater was originally written for soprano and alto soloists, and for this performance, you will hear an arrangement for mixed chorus.

All-Night Vigil (Vespers)

Saturday, June 1, 2024, 8pm
Rachmaninoff composed this masterpiece during a 2 week period in 1915. The title of “Vespers” that was given to his work was a bit of a misnomer, as the “Vespers” is only part of the All-Night Vigil. The other parts are the Matins and First Hour. The 6th movement has become one of the most cherished settings of Ave Maria (“Rejoice, O Virgin” is the actual title) for choirs around the world. Not unlike Bach’s Mass in B minor, Rachmaninoff combined the old (ancient chants) and the new (compositional style) and it stands as the pinnacle of the composer’s work and his favourite composition. Come join us and hear how a composer, known for his piano works, somehow created one of the most remarkable pieces in the choral canon.
